OnePlus Launches O+ Connect: Seamless AirDrop-Style File Sharing Between Android and Apple Devices

In the ever-present rivalry between iOS and Android, Apple fans have long boasted about the exclusive convenience of AirDrop. But now, OnePlus is stepping up to challenge that claim with a game-changing feature: O+ Connect. This new tool brings seamless file sharing and drag-and-drop transfers to OnePlus devices — offering a direct competitor to Apple’s AirDrop functionality.

O+ Connect is built into OnePlus' custom OxygenOS Android interface and pairs with a dedicated app compatible with third-party devices. The first device to support this technology is the OnePlus 13R, with support for the flagship OnePlus 13 confirmed to be arriving soon. For now, this feature is available to users in the UK and European Union.

What makes O+ Connect remarkable is that it allows users to wirelessly view and transfer files between OnePlus smartphones and Apple devices such as iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks. Traditionally, transferring files across operating systems has required cloud storage platforms like Google Drive or WeTransfer. O+ Connect eliminates the need for these intermediaries by offering direct file exchange across platforms.

The companion app can be downloaded either from the official OnePlus website or directly from Apple’s iOS App Store. Even more impressive is the app’s compatibility — it works with macOS versions as far back as 10.4 (macOS X Tiger), released in 2005. This level of backward compatibility means nearly every Mac produced in the last two decades can use this functionality.

Interestingly, O+ Connect was first released for Oppo phones, and it's worth noting that Oppo and OnePlus share a common parent company: BBK Electronics. Although the two brands often share design philosophies and internal technology, they continue to operate independently. That said, cross-compatibility and shared features like O+ Connect could be a growing trend.

According to OnePlus, this integration marks the beginning of a larger vision — creating an interconnected ecosystem that links OnePlus devices with hardware from a variety of other brands, not just Apple. For users who frequently struggle with transferring large files between platforms, this could be a welcome innovation.

From a personal perspective, many users have long been frustrated by the tedious process of moving videos or images between Android and Apple ecosystems. While third-party solutions such as LocalSend exist, having a native and first-party option from a major brand like OnePlus enhances reliability and user trust.

It’s refreshing to see smartphone manufacturers prioritize consumer convenience rather than locking users into isolated ecosystems. O+ Connect not only makes sharing easier but also signals a shift toward greater interoperability across platforms — a trend many consumers have hoped for.

Though currently limited in scope, OnePlus has confirmed O+ Connect will be available on the OnePlus 13 soon. With any luck, it will also roll out to more devices in OnePlus’ growing smartphone lineup.
