Sad News for My Dress-Up Darling Fans: Spin-Off Manga Ends Just as Season 2 Approaches

Fans of My Dress-Up Darling are counting down the days until the release of Season 2, but while anticipation for the anime is building, there's an unfortunate update on the manga side of things. The recently launched official spin-off manga, Bisque Doll de chu, has already been confirmed to end after just one compiled volume—dampening hopes for extended content from the beloved cosplay romance franchise.

Originally serialized in Young Gangan magazine in December 2024, Bisque Doll de chu was written and illustrated by Choboraunyopomi. It was released just a month after the conclusion of the main manga, giving fans a brief continuation of the My Dress-Up Darling universe. However, according to a new listing on Amazon Japan, the spin-off will be limited to a single tankobon, scheduled for release on July 25, 2025. As of now, there are no announcements for a continuation or additional side stories.

This news arrives just as the anime’s second season is preparing to premiere. Animated once again by studio CloverWorks, the first season was a massive hit in 2022, adapting the first five volumes of the 14-volume manga. With nine volumes remaining, Season 2 has plenty of material to work with—and it's widely speculated that this next chapter may bring the anime adaptation to its conclusion. It’s possible the content of Bisque Doll de chu might even be folded into the new season, offering fans one last look into the lives of their favorite characters.

Adding to the franchise’s growing legacy, My Dress-Up Darling also received a live-action drama adaptation that aired in Japan from October to December 2024. This version introduced the story to a wider demographic and added a unique layer to the fandom’s experience, though reactions to the live-action adaptation were mixed.

The character at the heart of the series, Marin Kitagawa, remains a cultural icon among anime fans. Her infectious enthusiasm for cosplay, paired with her evolving relationship with introverted doll-maker Gojo Wakana, continues to resonate deeply with audiences worldwide. It’s no surprise, then, that the early end of Bisque Doll de chu feels like a missed opportunity for further character exploration and fanservice.

Still, there's plenty for fans to look forward to. Season 2 of the anime promises more heartfelt moments, cosplay transformations, and the slow-burn romance that made Season 1 so beloved. The original cast will return to reprise their roles, and with the series’ popularity at an all-time high, expectations are sky-high.
